Two of the settings people who champion the Epic probably use most are flash-off and spot meter. Luke mentioned having to constantly switch the settings back, and yeah that's annoying. I don't know how frequently the problem occurs with the T5. It happens pretty easily with the Epic, and of course you can't see it happening. That photo above illustrates another issue.flare.

Here, it definitely did not (went back to center focus): Here, the focus & recompose worked perfectly: You won't get as much camera shake but of course, you lose DOF. Also, bear in mind that the Epic is biased towards big aperture/faster shutter speed. bars & parties) autofocus doesn't always work.the camera doesn't know what to focus on. Regular (not too harsh compared to some, but not ideal):Īutofocus, well.this is one of the reasons I prefer my Trip 35. Here's a comparison of night-flash and regular flash: (And of course, red-eye reduction flash scares people). The flash is very close to the lens so redeye happens frequently. I honestly forget it's in my purse/messenger bag sometimes because it's so light.įlash is something I rarely use. (One of the reasons I don't use the A630 anymore is that I realized even my SLR is only a bit heavier and takes better party shots). It is indeed "party friendly," as in very, very light, very small-my P&S digital is a Canon A630 and the Epic is slimmer and lighter. It's cheaper than the T4 (I assume the same goes for T5) and has a slightly faster lens.

It's versatile and if you know how to use it, you'll get excellent shots. It was my backup camera for travel for a long time, I definitely tested banging it around and shooting in wet or snow conditions, but I've switched to traveling with the Trip 35 (man, I love Olympus) because I actually have a bit more control with it. I trust the Epic with "abuse" (I'm not THAT hard on mine though) because of the clamshell design. I don't trust the Yashica or Contax to take as much abuse, but that's just my hunch and not based on any sort of facts. Mine is all scratched up and lives on the floor of one of my cars. I think the Olympus is built well enough to bang around in your pocket for years and years. I have a Yashica T2 and it works, but is even more annoying than the Olympus for the automatic extension of the lens each time you take a photo. I've never used any of the newer Contax or Yashica cameras. You have to purposely turn off the flash on the Stylus when you turn the power on. Everyone wants the Yashica/Contax for their zeiss lenses, but the lens in the Olympus is impressive as well.Īll of the cameras you mentioned annoy me because they're too automated. can either of these cameras be compared at all closely with the contax T2/T3? thanks again!
#Contax g2 turn off af portable
So is the Zeiss Tessar T* really that good on the T5 and if it is then how does the Mju ii lens compare? i own an XA4 which is incredible but i want an automatic p&s which is just that bit more portable and party friendly.Īlso how do the AF systems and flash settings of the cameras fair? I have tralled the net for hours and i know there is a discussion which already exists which i have read through.īasically I know a lot about both cameras I just cant make the final decision! lol. Hello there, as you may have guessed i am considering the two for purchase but i dont know which one.
